We made it to Las Vegas earlier than I’d thought and caught my in-laws by surprise. Well, not when we got there, but when I called them from about an hour out from arriving. My father-in-law said he thought we were coming tomorrow (Friday) and I said I thought Lance had told you we were coming today (Thursday).

Nope. Apparently he told his mom we might be there early. They had just gotten home a half an hour earlier from their road trip to where we live.

And there we were. After we unloaded the suburban we all put our swimsuits on and got into the pool. It was 101 degrees. The pool, not the air. The air temperature was in the low 90’s and the pool felt more like a hot tub.

Lance arrived late as his plane was delayed due to inclement weather here in Vegas. FIL went to pick him up while we splashed around in the pool. When he arrived it was wonderful. We all missed him so much.

He joined us in the pool before a wonderful dinner that MIL prepared. Greek chicken Ceaser salad with watermelon. She said it was leftovers. Their leftovers are better than most people’s firsts. MIL is an amazing cook.

Since it was late we (hubby and two younger girls) settled in to watch Pirates of the Caribbean and Chris went to watch tv in his room and Steph went off in search of a wifi connection in the neighborhood. Apparently she found one that connected her, but she had to sit in the suburban to use it.

After the girls fell asleep, Lance and I took a midnight swim. The water was like being in a warm bath. I missed him so much.

Since there was a nearly full moon, it was pretty light out while we were there in the pool. Add the moonlight to the ambient light provided by the Vegas strip, and it was darn near daylight out there. We lay on our backs, looking up at the sky and watched large puffy clouds pass over head. Sound was muffled because our ears were in the water and it was such a calming feeling. Warm air, warm water…… amazing feeling.

Today is Friday and already Ashley and Allison have their daddy out in the pool. Chris just joined them as well. Steph hasn’t gotten up yet. Apparently she found that the wifi connection she was hooked into last night would work in the house and she spent hours online with her friends.

This morning I mentioned to FIL that she’d found a wifi connection to ‘borrow’ from one of his neighbors and he said it was probably the guy next door who runs a porn site.

Oh yeah. Lovely. For some reason I can’t connect to it this morning, which is why I’m writing this here in Works and I’ll post it later. My laptop is running a lot slower than it was yesterday. I wonder if by hooking up to the porn guy’s wifi it did something to my system? Grrrrrr.

  2. When I read your comment here while I was in Vegas, I wrote this lengthy comment back, but blogger lost it.

I am very much in love with my husband. He's got the kindest heart of any man I've ever known. He's gentle and sweet and wonderful and he makes me laugh. I love him more every day. We're going to celebrate out 19th wedding anniversary on August 1st.

And I'm sorry about the ambiguity about the salad. The watermelon was on the side, not in the salad.

Wheeeeeeee!

Today I was awakened to the not-so-delightful sounds of enormous dump trucks, (you know the ones that are a dump truck and they haul a trailer behind?) dumping truck load after truck load of dirt behind my house. Then the most incredibly noisey and squeaky (do they not grease the tracks on those things??) grader began shoving the dirt and rocks around. I had to fight the urge to throw a can of WD40 over the fence to the driver. It wasn't even eight in the morning. It wasn't even 7:30 yet. So I reluctantly arose from my bed and cleaned up the kitchen. After it was spotless, I went back upstairs to my freeze-zone (the only room in the house with AC) to do some online banking and make calls to check on medical bills, etc. As I was finishing up, in walks my husband! At first I had a moment of Oh-no-he's-lost-his-job terror. Then it passed after he smiled. Seems they ran out of work for the day. Odd, but then that's Boeing. So hubby was roped into going school cloth

Peace Begins with You

In my readings this week, I came across a video of Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin. He gave a talk entitled, "Peace Within." Who doesn't want peace? Who doesn't crave peace within their soul? In their lives? In their hearts and in their homes? How often do we have complete peace? I'd say my answer would have to be that there isn't enough peace in my life, heart or home. It's not like I live in a warzone--I do not. I'm blessed to live in a nation where I have freedoms granted to me by the founding fathers and I do not risk being struck down by bombs or shot by snipers when I venture forth from my home. My neighborhood is relatively safe, so much so that I take solo walks. The peace I speak of is something different. It's the peace that can be with me no matter my circumstances. I crave that peace. Elder Wirthlin says that peace begins in the hearts of righteous individuals. How does it begin? With a relationship with our creator. In ferven

She's Something...

Most of you know that I've got four children. My eldest is seventeen. Oh heavens...how did that happen? Wasn't I just seventeen the other day? I'm sure I was.... Well, she's amazing. I know the majority of mothers have very high compliments to pay their children--and rightly so. However, my baby girl is astounding by anyone's standards. She is going to high school and college at the same time. In high school she's taking mostly AP (Advanced Placement) classes, which also count for college credits. She gets up at five a.m. every morning, goes to Seminary, then goes to school, she works four hours daily as an office manager at Winderemere Real Estate. She speaks Spanish, plays piano, guitar and flute. She goes to the gym daily and it shows. This was her yesterday. This is a picture I just took of her, after getting her braces put on. Now, having said that she is gifted and talented, I should ammend this post to tell you the following. She just got home
