Blackberry Pie

I took the boys out blackberry picking again this morning, so of course I had to make another blackberry pie this afternoon. I made dinner, made the pie and then went upstairs and fell asleep. My back was giving me fits again and those pills they gave me simply make me pass out. I probably shouldn't have jumped across that creek again today. Silly, silly me. Lance took this picture of the pie and sent it upstairs to my cell phone. He said it was the perfect pie. Not sure how perfect it was, but it warms my heart to make them happy. Tomorrow is fair day and we're taking the munchkins there in the afternoon.

Miss Pam Was Bad

I got up this morning at 4:30 with a horrific pain in my right arm. Being the hypochondriac that I am, I imedately assumed I was in the throes of cardiac arrest. Apparently I was wrong. But since I was up, why not unload the dishwasher and do some laundry? Splendid idea. At 5:30 I got the two oldest kids up and running, then I left to pump gasoline into my gas-guzzler. That was fun. And painful. And expensive. But I digress. Let's just say that from 8a.m till around noon I was squiring children from one end of the planet to the other. I did some grocery shopping and then picked some blackberries so I can make a pie for after dinner this evening. I realized I had no bowl in the Suburban, so I dumped some groceries from a plastic bag (yes, I got plastic not paper ~~gasp) and went to pick the blackberries. It was a nicely shaded place on the side of the road across from a lovely lagoon, woods all around. As I picked I kept hearing something rustling in the woods in front o...

Arepas!

Today I made arepas , the Venezuelan staple. It's like our bread, eaten daily and with nearly every meal. My friend Annabella brought me some masa when she came up to visit and I just now had the chance to make some. Mmmmmm....good.

Did I forget to mention...

The insurance adjustor called to say that his estimate is that it will take $2,600 to fix the truck. Oh, and the guy that hit her filed a claim saying that she is at fault for the accident. I don't believe this man knows that we have the number of the off duty King county sheriff's officer who saw the whole thing and is willing to sign an affadavit to that effect. I spoke with the officer tonight and he's very nice. So, Steph has lost her wheels, I've become her chauffer and I'm losing my two daycare boys. They say things come in threes.... Let's see. Car accident is number one. Car now undrivable, number two. Losing job, number three. Hear that karma? We're done now. Update: Apparently Karma is more difficult to pacify than I'd thought. Our mamma kitty is pregnant. With kittens, I'm assuming. This time it can't be Uncle Daddy. Bad Kitty. Naughty Karma.
