The Duck of Comfort

I took a long one today, in between working on some Spanish curriculum stuff and working in appointments for interpreting jobs that I got phone calls for....

I think I just needed to sleep today. It felt good. I've been running running running for so long now and I'm tired. Physically and to be certain, emotionally.

A lot of my students are signing up for a second round of Spanish classes with me and so I'm looking forward to creating that curriculum. They're a great group of kids and a bright spot in my mornings.

Last night Ally had a thing with the young women's group at church. She's been working on a project about how to make people feel better about themselves and her display there was beautiful. When we drove home later, she was chatting and chatting and chatting. She is an amazing young lady---at twelve she has a poise and a serenity that I love. She has always been a loving and caring and peaceful soul in our lives.

Ash has seen I've been sad lately--though we've done our best to shield them from problems, it's hard not to notice when mommy's eyes are red a lot. She solemnly handed me her precious Ducky last night. To make me feel better and to cheer me up. Now Ducky watches over me as I type this and comforts me.

  1. Duckies rock! My cousins girls just made their family throw a birthday party for their duckie, just like this one. It was rather cute. You and your entire family are great examples to us all!!!

  2. What a sweet girl to share her duckie. That is precious. I'm sure Allison did a wonderful job. I hope this coming week is more peaceful for you.

She's Something...

Most of you know that I've got four children. My eldest is seventeen. Oh heavens...how did that happen? Wasn't I just seventeen the other day? I'm sure I was.... Well, she's amazing. I know the majority of mothers have very high compliments to pay their children--and rightly so. However, my baby girl is astounding by anyone's standards. She is going to high school and college at the same time. In high school she's taking mostly AP (Advanced Placement) classes, which also count for college credits. She gets up at five a.m. every morning, goes to Seminary, then goes to school, she works four hours daily as an office manager at Winderemere Real Estate. She speaks Spanish, plays piano, guitar and flute. She goes to the gym daily and it shows. This was her yesterday. This is a picture I just took of her, after getting her braces put on. Now, having said that she is gifted and talented, I should ammend this post to tell you the following. She just got home

Wheeeeeeee!

Today I was awakened to the not-so-delightful sounds of enormous dump trucks, (you know the ones that are a dump truck and they haul a trailer behind?) dumping truck load after truck load of dirt behind my house. Then the most incredibly noisey and squeaky (do they not grease the tracks on those things??) grader began shoving the dirt and rocks around. I had to fight the urge to throw a can of WD40 over the fence to the driver. It wasn't even eight in the morning. It wasn't even 7:30 yet. So I reluctantly arose from my bed and cleaned up the kitchen. After it was spotless, I went back upstairs to my freeze-zone (the only room in the house with AC) to do some online banking and make calls to check on medical bills, etc. As I was finishing up, in walks my husband! At first I had a moment of Oh-no-he's-lost-his-job terror. Then it passed after he smiled. Seems they ran out of work for the day. Odd, but then that's Boeing. So hubby was roped into going school cloth

People are rude

I'm whining today. I think I have the right. My friend's mom sells Cookie Lee Jewelry and I agreed to host a party for her at my home tonight. I sent out about twenty invitations via the mail and I only had two people call me to say they couldn't come. Two. Two kind people called to let me know they would not be able to make it. The rest ignored the invitation. I cleaned my house, I made two apple crisps. This afternoon I called everyone I sent invitations to. I know people are busy. I get that. it's not that I'm not busy either. I'm just...disappointed in people. I feel let down. Silly of me, huh? But I do. Good thing I have apple crisp and vanilla ice cream for my family tonight. On a positive note, I went to the pool this morning and had a nice workout. Felt better for having done that and plan on going tomorrow as well. Now I'm getting the 'what's for dinner mooooom???' queries. I think tonight it will be fast food. I&#
